Jenkins Drag Racing
About the car....
The car was
bought in 1969 by my father Stanley and was used as the family transportation
unit for ten years. He installed a set of slotted Aluminuim mags with G60
size tires in the rear and F70's in the front, which made the car look
pretty sharp. Over the years it made the scene at the local A&W drive-in
and did it's share of street racing, especially when dad let me take the
car cruising during my early teenage years. When the car was retired in
the late seventies it had 140,000+ miles on it and looked pretty rough.
I spent four years restoring and converting it to race form. Out came the
small block 350, replaced by a big block 427 (now punched to 450). A fiberglass
tilt front end was fitted along with new rear quarter panels, front &
rear fiberglass bumpers, fiberglass seat, roll cage,4:88 gears and a ton
of other speed and safety equipment. The cars best E.T. to date is 10.81@121mph.
About the Driver....
Howdy, my name is Mike and well, I've been a motorhead ever since I can remember. As a kid I built tons of model cars and raced many laps at slot car raceways. My Father always took me to Minnesota Dragways and Twin City Speedway to see the dragraces and Super Modifieds go round-n-rounds on the dirt. I bought my first car, a 65 Chevelle at age fifteen with my own money that I earned from working summer jobs. It had a 283ci engine, two speed slush box tranny and chrome reverse wheels, all for $425.00. I installed a Holley 500cfm 2BBL carb, painted the car competition orange and proceded to neutrel drop this car to death for two years. There has been many cars in my life from then to now, some of which I raced at the dragstrips and many that spent time street racing. As I got older I realized that a more serious approach to racing was needed. So when my dads old 69 Chevelle was retired I took it as a opportunity to build a race car. I restored the 69 and have been bracket racing it for over ten years now with some success in recent years thanks to some help from a sponsor, Metro Moulded Rubber Products. Be sure to visit their web site through the link on this page for all your auto restrorations needs. Many thanks to Doug and the employees for the sponsorship program. I plan to continue racing in the future as time and money allow. My kids racing programs take a lot of time which makes it difficult for sponsor commitments. Hopefully as time goes by this situation will improve. Thanks for reading my story.
